Phil & Teds Navigator V2 Review – Clever Mechanics

The Phil and Teds Navigator V2 is what is known as an inline system, which means that the seats are one behind the other (in a line). What I like about this system is the sheer genius of the mechanics of how it is put together and how the two seat system delivers a stroller that feels like you are only pushing one child. I had an old old version of this pram myself for my two children and I don’t know how I would have coped without it!  I have rated it as oone of my top three stroller systems, see the rating.

This is a video giving full details of putting it together and how the double kit works together. It’s about 9 mins so skip ahead past the assembly bit if you want to see the pram being moved around. But its detailed and will tell you everything you need to know.

Pushchair element – Seat

614lDDPlMCL._SL1200_Let’s take the main seat as you see it on the picture. As this is an inline system, ie the two seats are inline, what you can do is use it as a single stroller or pushchair for one child and then if you were to have a second, buy the secondary seat. Or if this child is your second, then you can buy the full kit. I know it sounds odd but I would recommend buying the second seat even it it were my first child because you never know, and models change, so at least you would have something ready to go, you know, just in case.

The genius of this system is the placement of the two seats to make this system so adaptable. The second seat either goes behind the main seat as shown in the image or it can go above the main seat, once that has been flattened. The video describes this best.

The seat itself is well padded, and the adjustable straps means that it caters for your baby as he grows. It reclines in an odd way, by unbuckling the straps in the back in various ways. Its best to see this on the video as its hard to explain. The seat can be adapted to hold a newborn by adjusting the straps accordingly and then you fold up the end of the seat to create a little cocoon. This is particularly useful if you are using the second seat to place above the newborn. It sounds precarious, but its very safe. Well it would have to be!

Phil and teds full car seatCar seat

Phil and Ted have teamed up with Maxi Cosi (like so many other brands) to offer the maxi cosi pebble car seat. This seat is included with adaptors, but check where you are buying it from. We know that this is a really good brand. If you want to find out more about this click here

Carrycot

This particular system does not come with a carrycot, but you can purchase one separately, make sure you have the adaptors. There are two types of carrycot that come with a Phil & Teds system.

1. The soft carrycot: this inserts nicely into the main pram seat when it is at its lie flat position. In this position there are side panels which keep the baby nice and protected from the outside world. This little carrycot is great for trasnferring out of the pram and keeps baby really cosy. My little one used to sleep in it near the washing machine sometimes. Nice

2. The hard carrycot, which is more of a standard carrycot design which again clips onto the frame with adaptors. You will need to buy this separately. Personally  I would choose the one above, as the large carrycots are quite cumbersome and can take up alot of space.

Smoothness of the ride

wheelThis is one of the main features of this pram that I love. Its super large air filled tyres mean that it really tackles rough terrain well. It has three of these large tyres, which is unusual, for which the inner tube can be replaced, just like a bicycle. Its so manoeuvrable, and sporty. That’s why I love it. Not that I am either of those two things, but I can pretend.

Foldability

It folds quite simply as you can see in the video, but i have to say that it is quite a heavy lump when its all folded down. Its a shame, but there is a lot of engineering gone into this stroller system, that its no wonder. And it’s a 2 seater inline so there’s alot there. Be mindful of the size off your boot as if you have a small car this might be a struggle. Although all the sellers I am recommending have a great returns policy, so you are best off buying online and trying it out at home yourself. Then send it back if there’s a problem.

Accessories:

There aren’t many accessories for the stroller system that jazz it up, so it depends whether you are into the additional extras if this is the travel system for you?

Other smaller features

Handlebar: The moveable handlebar which rotates around an axis can be adjusted to fit any height of parent. As long as you aren’t a giant. And it’s soft rubber handlebar makes it really comfortable to hold and keeps it getting slippery on really hot days. Hmm nice.

Brakes: The brake system is really straight forward, just a simple press of a red button

Basket: The under seat basket has a good capacity and sides that can button up to hold even more and to be able to access more space.

Sun shield: The sun shield is extendable, to provide good coverage, with windows to keep the baby cool.

Price

Price depends on whether you buy the full travel system or not but the best prices are below

There are many other variations on the items that you can buy from Amazon, whether you have just a pushchair with car seat, or include the carrycot. Have a look around starting with the above to get what you want.

Don’t forget, if you are buying a separate car seat, make sure you have the right adapters. Amazon sell everything so they are a good bet.

I only recommend sellers that have a good returns policy and a content customer base as this product is great for trying out at home and then sending back if necessary.

Please feel free to ask me any questions below and I will come back to as soon as possible.
